Welcome, everyone! Please feel free to discuss whatever you wish on this forum.

    We ask only the following:
    - Be relevant. Try to keep the discussions related to dystonia and other movement disorders.
    - Be helpful. If someone asks for advice and you believe you can help, do so! This is a community forum.
    - Be polite. Speak like your talking to your mother. If you disagree with someone, say so. Just say it nicely!

    Thank you!

As the author of LEARNING, COPING, LIVING and HURRICANE WITHIN ME, I can tell you that both books were written in an easy-to-read manner, but both are also loaded with examples of ways to help yourself live life better even if you have dystonia. I am the only author I personally know who has dystonia. Sometimes I think I've written the rules for living a good life in spite of my disability. At the end of the books, there appears an appendix which lists the ways you can help yourself, physically and emotionally.

After reading my books, you may want to come to the forum. You may make comments on what you've read or you may ask questions. Do whatever you're comfortable doing. Others can respond to you on the forum or I also will keep my eye open, just in case someone wants to have a conversation with me personally.

Writing the books helped me a great deal. I'm sure that reading the books will be of help to you, too.

dear betty, is your book available in the shops. I was diagnosed with spasmodic torticollis dystonia, in june 2006. I am now living on my own, as my husband left me last year, i am finding the divorce very stressful, and my dystonia seems worse, i have felt very isolated, and lonely, and more depressed then usual, but i am beginning to realise, that it is me, who is isolating myself, is this a usual condition, for us dystonia sufferer,s. I am realising i need to find out more about my condition, and get myself back into life again. I would love to hear other peoples stories, to see if any relate to me.
